AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHING REPORT ( Feb. 5 - 12)
CATCH: TOTAL 1024 FISH BY 8 ANGLERS
* Fly-In Cabin Barges on the headwaters of the Tapera (6 hours past the shallows on the mouth) did excellent last week in terms of numbers. 1024 fish were caught by 8 anglers of which 28 fish were in the 12 - 18 class, and 1 in the 19 lbs class. Busy top-water bait casters were catching 45 - 50 fish/boat/day, and busy fly fishermen were catching 80 - 100 fish/boat/day.
Up until today, fishing continued to be doing excellent, however, if water levels continue to drop impossibiliting even our bass boats from navigating, we're going to transfer the Tapera party to one of our fall back Barges in another fishery.
* Fly-In Cabin Barges at headwaters of the Shufari (8 hours past the shallows on the mouth) did well in terms of quantity. 726 fish were caught by 8 anglers of which 20 fish were in the 12 - 18 class.
* Fly-In Amazon Angel on the mouth of the Tapera: We had nobody last week. The last three days did average in quantity considering a yacht most of the times cannot reach the remote low fishing pressure areas of the headwaters; however, we have an exclusive lease with the County in the lower portion of this river which keeps most, but not all, fishing pressure away. Only 220 fish were caught by eight (8) anglers of which only 2 fish were in the 12 - 18 lbs class. Therefore our guests have accepted to transfer yesterday to our fall back Barges in the upper Jufari.
However, finally over the weekend as waters dropped dramatically at the head water, 6 hours above our landing strip, where there is less fishing pressure, fishing improved 500%! 8 anglers over the weekend caught over 320 fish and 4 over 19 lbs. and even a 26 pounder!!
* Mid North (above the waterfalls of the Jaú, Carabinani, Unini, etc). It has stopped raining in this area and water levels are fishable at the headwaters.
* North West (Barcelos area: Araca, Cuiuini, etc). Today we have one (1) Barge operation on the upper Cuiuni 6 hours above our landing strip, and, we have a "fall back" Barge operation on the upper Shufari which will receive a party from the Amazon Angel yacht.
In the last three days, water levels have stopped rising at the headwaters of all right and left banks' Negro tributaries and are all fishable. At the mouth, water levels are fishable; however, it's not a good situation since there is substantial survival and sport-fishing pressure on the mouth of all these rivers. Therefore, we will move another Barge operation to the last one third of the upper Caures as a "fall back" on the hope water levels continue to drop.
* North East (Rio Branco tributaries: Xeurini, Tapera, Agua Boa). Water levels in this area are too dry. Today, we continue to have one Fly-In Cabin Barge on the low fishing pressure headwaters of the Tapera. We are moving another Cabin Barge out if the upper Macucacu since it's too dry.
Also today, we are transferring our Amazon Angel yacht out of the mouth of the Tapera since water levels are too low.
* Mid-South (Igoapaçú, Matupiri, Tupana, etc) Water levels were perfect in September through November but are now unfishably high which is normal for this time of the year. Our Fly-In Cabin Barges have moved out of this area in November.
* South (Manicoré, Marmelos, etc) Water levels were perfect in late July and September but are now unfishably high which is normal for this time of the year. Our Fly-In Cabin Barges have moved out of this area in August.
