Fishing in terms of trophy fish
has been good, despite mediocre water levels in all
rivers.
Except over the water falls on the Unini river, water
levels are still high.
A total of 1.857 fish were landed by 25 anglers, 168
of which were in the 12 - 18 lbs. class, 4 were 19
lbs., 9 were 20 lbs., 1 was 21 lbs., 3 were 22 lbs.
and 1 was 25 lbs.
Last week 4.154 were landed by 32 anglers, of which
295 were in the 12-18 lbs. class, 17 were 19 lbs. class,
1 were 21 lbs., 1 was 22 lbs. and 1 was 23 lbs.
Please note the large amount of 19 pounders and over. These are honest trophy weight classifications. There is a growing tendency among others outfitters to “transfer” the 17-19 trophies in the 20 lbs. category. Moreover, there is also a growing tendency among others outfitters to troll, instead of cast, for trophy fish which is not necessary in our remote low fishing pressure areas.
